Half Term Overview
Please see the link below to a more detailed overview as to what your children can expect to be getting up to this half term. Our theme is Wild! where we will be looking at different animals and basing our learning around Emily Hughes' Wild and Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are
Our PE days are Tuesday (outdoor) and Monday (indoor). Please make sure your child has a named PE kit with trainers or plimsols. Remember, laces are hard to tie if you haven't learnt how to! Jogging bottoms are advised as we head into the Autumn/Winter months.
Your child will also be receiving a maths game each week to help embed and consolidate their learning. These will go home on a Thursday and should be returned Tuesdays.
In Year 1 we have implemented Continuous Provision to help ease the transition from Reception and allow children to maintain a level of autonomy and independence in their learning. Below is an example of our weekly timetable which may be subject to change.
Reading
Home reading books will be changed or checked twice a week. The changing days are indicated on your child's reading folder. Please make sure you are reading with your child every day for at least 15 minutes. They will have read the book in class to build their comprehension and prosody which they can then build on at home. We are also providing books to read aloud to your child to help grow their vocabulary and to expose them to a range of sentence structures whilst encouraging a love of reading! For guidelines on the correct pronunciation of sounds to support your child's reading please see this video.
