Attendance and Punctuality
Punctuality.
It is important for your child to arrive at school in good time in the morning to start the day in a relaxed and calm way. If children arrive late it is unsettling for them and their class.
Please ensure that you are in the playground at 8.55am. The playground will be supervised from 8.45am for parents who need to leave their children in order to go to work.
If you arrive at school after 8:55am then we ask that you inform the office the reason your child is late so that we can make our returns to Camden Local Authority. We ask that you do this so that we do not have to ask your child.
Attendance.
Children are required by law to receive 190 days education per year. Regular attendance at school is vital for your child’s progress, and you have a legal responsibility to see that your child is in school and on time every day.
Please telephone the school on the first day of your child’s absence to let us know why your child is absent.
A list of school holidays is issued every year and family holidays should be planned within these dates. As a Camden School we adhere to the local authority’s policy on exceptional leave which clearly advises that term time absences can only be granted in exceptional circumstances.
It is important that you should be aware that, if you take your child out of school without authorisation, the matter will be referred to the Education Welfare Service. Under Section 444(1) of the Education Act 1996 the Education Welfare Service may issue a Penalty Notice/s.
The fine of the Penalty Notices is £60 for each parent and for each child if paid within 21 days or £120 if paid between 21-28 days and if it remains unpaid the matter may be taken to Court. The Education Welfare Service has the option of taking the matter directly to Court without first issuing a Penalty Notice.
Any leave of absence must be agreed by the Headteacher. ONLY the Headteacher can authorise a period of leave and cannot authorise term time holidays. An absence request form is available from the school office.
If you need to take your child out of school during term time an absence request form can be obtained from the school office, leave will only be authorised for unavoidable, exceptional circumstances.
